Nightingale KnittersThe Nightingale Knitters are very busy at the moment, they are currently knitting woolly hats to support the Save the Children campaign to help save childrens lives.
Did you know that each year 10 million children die before they reach their 5th birthday, many of which could be saved simply by woolly hats to help newborn babies to regulate their body temperature?
Well done to Pauline and all our Knitting group members for supporting such a worthy cause!
If you would like to find out more about our Nightingale Knitters group, which is held on Thursday mornings at the Nightingale Centre, please ring us on 012104 332760. Angela Kelly came along to the group to interview some of the knitters for an article she is planning for the Bolton News - and picked up some knitting tips at the same time!

Press release from the BIG LOTTERY:
Lottery learning scheme makes BIG splash for Bolton families
A feast of new and exciting learning games will soon be on the menu for local families, after the Bolton Literacy Trust received backing from the Big Lottery Fund.
The £138,746 award comes under BIG's Family Learning programme, which supports projects and organisations that bring adults and children together to improve their skills and knowledge.
The project, Families Learning Together with Bolton Literacy Trust, will host a wide range of stimulating activities for adults and children to learn together at venues across Bolton. Ten different kinds of activities are planned, including literacy-related activities such as 'Words and Pictures' where craft, rhymes and lunchtime snacks will be based on a different letter each week, 'Splash and Sing', which will provide song sessions in local swimming pools, and 'Out and About' trips to museums, an open farm, parks and nature trails.
The scheme will also offer communication courses for teenagers and their families including English for foreign speakers, cookery and 'how to do it' IT classes where youngsters get the chance to teach the adults. Early years activities will feature 'Tickle & Bounce' sessions for babies, learning rhymes with their mums, dads or carers, and toddlers can enjoy 'Little Learners' sessions working with families on early literacy skills using puppets, parachute games, songs, stories and crafts. The Trust will also regenerate its work by passing on project case studies and best practice to partner organisations and family learning practitioners.
Jen Carney, Family Learning Co-ordinator said: "Bolton Literacy Trust is delighted to have secured funding from the Big Lottery for this quality family-focussed project which will enable us to carry out valuable work with needy families in Bolton. The Trust has a history of successful projects working with 0-90 year olds and promoting embedded learning via fun-filled activities. We are looking forward to being able to work with partners in Bolton to give an array of communities more of what they have been requesting in terms of family learning activities."
Michelle McNamee, Big Lottery Fund Head of North West Region, said: "The Family Learning Programme creates safe and fun environments for children, parents, carers and grandparents to come together, meet other families and learn new activities. Bolton Literacy Trust will provide a diverse and exciting range of learning opportunities for all the family, giving parents a chance to spend quality time with their children away from home and day-to-day stresses. This project is an excellent example of how the Big Lottery Fund supports local communities."
