Ruth Kelly helps Bolton Literacy Trust's novel idea
Bolton Literacy Trust's celebrated its 5th Anniversary by launching a Book Appeal to have 1 million books donated. In the 2 weeks since the launch the 'bookometer' on the website shows that over 2500 books have been collected, so well done readers who have donated so far!
Many of the books will be used for the literacy projects that the Trust undertakes that have benefited over 7000 adults and children in the past 5 years. It is intended to sell the remainder to raise much needed funding to sustain the valuable work.
Transport Minister and Bolton MP Ruth Kelly presented the Chief Executive of the Trust, Sue Hoey, with some books on politics. Ruth Kelly said 'I congratulate everyone in the Trust. It is a great way to get people reading together. I hope that everyone will join in so more can benefit from the work of the Trust'.
Sue Hoey, Chief Executive of the Trust, thanked Ruth and said 'It is our novel idea to recycle and raise funds. Everyone has books they have enjoyed but won't read again so dig deep in those shelves. Thank you for your help and please get involved in our other projects.' Since its creation in 2002, Bolton Literacy Trust has supported over 7,000 Bolton residents, with ages ranging from 6 months to 90 years of age, in the fields of literacy, numeracy and IT, in a variety of exciting and innovative ways. To achieve this, it has successfully generated over £1 million and is constantly seeking new avenues of funding to continue this valuable work.
As part of its 5th anniversary as a charity, the Trust has launched an appeal for the donation of a million books!
Books which will be useful for its projects will be kept and any remaining will be sold online to increase its sustainable income.
If you have any good quality books at home that you feel you could part with, Bolton Literacy Trust can make good use of them!
